Overview
Designing for the game OUTERPLANE exhibiting at Anime Impulse. OUTERPLANE is an action-packed turn-based RPG. The game features strategic combat with skill chains, stunning 3D animations, and an epic story with character side stories.
Location: Anaheim, CA
Time: 1 month
Challenges:
- Tight deadline of 1 month to work on concept to final,
accounting for lead time.
- Very limited budget to design the floor.
- The number of assets available were also limited.
- Goal was to get potential players interested to participate
in activations and ultimately download the game.
With these things in mind, I focused on creating designs for a large colorful multi-panel backlit wall and signage, both large and small. Additionally, I designed promotional assets to be shared across all social media platforms to promote the event.
The booth theme was a blend of traditional Japanese and retro cyberpunk. I incorporated these elements by using bright, contrasting pastel colors and sharp, edgy fonts. To evoke a traditional Japanese feel, I included kimono patterns as textures and backgrounds. Additionally, I drew inspiration from 90s and 2000s anime magazine covers to shape the overall design, capturing a nostalgic yet futuristic aesthetic.

PIXLIP MULTI-PANEL BACKLIT WALL
Five individual 3ft x 8ft panels that connect to be a total 15ft long.
At first the production team wanted a nighttime background for the front of the wall. I insisted that since these panels would be backlit, having a dark background will block more light, which may be harder for the booth to stand out. After showing them the initial drafts using a daytime background, they agreed and we moved forward with these designs.
On the backside of the front wall, I created bold, bright, and colorful graphics emphasizing the popular female characters in the game. This part of the booth would be facing the aisle, where there is more foot traffic, attracting curious attendees to stop by.
